This bill requires the principal of a public school to separate students involved in an order of protection, which is a court order designed to protect someone from harm or harassment. Specifically, if an order of protection is issued to shield one student from another student enrolled in the same public school, the principal must remove the student named as the respondent (the one against whom the order is issued) from any shared classroom, school-sponsored event, or activity with the student named as the petitioner (the one seeking protection) for as long as the order is in effect. The school or school district must then provide alternative instruction for any classes the respondent student misses due to this separation. This measure aims to enhance student safety by ensuring that students protected by an order of protection are not in direct contact with the student they are being protected from while at school.
