This bill allows graduates of certain accredited engineering technology programs to become registered professional engineers in Tennessee, provided they meet specific requirements. Previously, only graduates of traditional engineering programs were eligible. Under this new law, these engineering technology graduates must have prior engineering experience, submit professional references from three currently registered Tennessee engineers, and pass two examinations administered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES): one on the fundamentals of engineering and another on the principles and practice of engineering. Additionally, they need to demonstrate at least eight years of progressive experience on engineering projects supervised by a licensed professional engineer, proving their competence to practice engineering. The bill also specifies different effective dates for rule-making purposes versus general implementation.
