This bill allows high school students who are at least 16 years old to work in child care centers, both during and outside of school hours, provided they are participating in a work-based learning program and have successfully completed at least two courses within the education and training career cluster. The bill amends Tennessee Code Annotated (TCA) Title 71, Chapter 3, Part 5, which deals with child welfare, and specifies that this provision overrides existing child labor laws, referencing TCA § 50-5-105. The Department of Human Services is authorized to create rules to implement this new section, following the Uniform Administrative Procedures Act, and the act is set to become effective on July 1, 2026.
