This bill makes it a Class A misdemeanor, a serious criminal offense, for anyone, including virtual currency kiosk operators, to knowingly install, permit the installation of, place, or operate a virtual currency kiosk in Tennessee. A virtual currency kiosk is defined as an electronic terminal that facilitates the exchange of virtual currency, which is a digital representation of value not recognized as legal tender by the U.S. government, for money or other virtual currency. This prohibition applies to operators who engage in virtual currency business through such terminals in the state, permit their use on their property, or own a kiosk operated within Tennessee. The bill amends various Tennessee Code Annotated titles, including those related to state government, finance, and criminal law, and will take effect on July 1, 2026.
