This bill amends Tennessee law to permit individuals to possess cannabis if it was obtained directly from, or pursuant to a diagnosis of a qualifying medical condition by, a physician licensed in Tennessee, referencing a federal executive order that moved cannabis to a less restrictive category. For individuals possessing cannabis not obtained under these medical conditions, the bill specifies penalties based on the amount possessed, classifying violations as a Class A misdemeanor; possessing one ounce or less may result in a fine of up to $100, community service, or both, with no jail time, and officers are required to issue a citation instead of making an arrest for this amount. Possession of more than one ounce but less than half a pound carries a fine of up to $500 and community service for a first offense, a fine of up to $1,000 and up to 30 days in jail for a second offense, and a fine of up to $2,500 and up to six months in jail for a third or subsequent offense.
