AI Summary
This bill expands the definition of "law enforcement officer" to include federal law enforcement officers in various criminal and traffic laws, ensuring they are treated similarly to state and local officers in these contexts. It also creates a new crime called "unlawful approach of a first responder," which prohibits knowingly approaching or remaining too close to a first responder (including law enforcement officers, emergency medical personnel, and firefighters) while they are performing their duties, especially after being signaled to stop, if it distracts them or increases their concern for safety. Furthermore, the bill clarifies that the enforcement of federal laws and executive orders is covered under the state's Tort Claims Act, meaning government entities and employees are generally not liable for damages resulting from these enforcement actions, similar to how they are protected for enforcing state laws. This aims to provide consistent legal treatment and protections for federal law enforcement officers operating within the state.
