This resolution, originating from the Indiana House of Representatives, honors Emily Schwartz Keirns for receiving the Best of the Best award from the Indiana Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (INTESOL). INTESOL is an organization dedicated to improving the teaching and learning of English as a Second Language in Indiana, respecting diverse language and cultural backgrounds. The Best of the Best award specifically recognizes individuals who excel in supporting English language learners, who are students primarily not native to English. Emily Schwartz Keirns, an administrator and English language learner teacher at East Allen County Schools (EACS), was recognized for her dedication and passion in helping these students, who represent a significant and growing portion of the EACS student population, achieve English proficiency and meet academic standards, particularly in her role overseeing Title III grant funds which support these students. The resolution also directs the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives to send copies of this resolution to State Representative Phil GiaQuinta for distribution.
