This bill amends existing law to require local governments to have a written policy and procedures manual for their police departments regarding the submission of information about missing and unidentified persons to the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System, known as NamUs. This requirement is a condition for units of government to be eligible for funds from the Law Enforcement Foundation Program fund. The policy must specify that missing and unidentified persons case information be entered into NamUs after it has been entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), with specific deadlines for submission based on the circumstances of the case, such as abduction, AMBER Alert activation, or if the person's safety is in danger. This new requirement is in addition to other duties local police departments have concerning missing persons and is intended to improve the tracking and identification of missing and unidentified individuals.
