This bill revises the compensation for the Sheriff of Jefferson County, Alabama, by establishing a new salary structure and an expense allowance. Specifically, it amends an existing law to state that starting with the next term of office, the Sheriff's annual salary will be $160,000, and they will also receive the same cost-of-living increases as deputy sheriffs. Additionally, effective immediately upon the bill becoming law, the Sheriff will receive an extra $40,000 per year as an expense allowance, paid monthly from the county's general fund, which can be used for retirement contributions. However, this initial salary and expense allowance will become void starting with the next term of office, at which point the Sheriff's annual salary will be increased to $225,000. The bill will become effective on the first day of the month following its enactment.
