AI Summary

This bill, titled the "Federal Workforce Stability and Reemployment Priority Act," aims to support displaced federal employees in Georgia by providing them with retraining and career transition services, as well as modifying state hiring procedures. A "displaced federal employee" is defined as someone who worked for a federal agency in Georgia and lost their job due to reasons like federal shutdowns, furloughs over 30 days, position eliminations, base realignments, or workforce reductions. The Georgia Department of Labor will collaborate with the Technical College System of Georgia and the University System of Georgia to offer these employees priority access to retraining programs, skill certificates, and career counseling, potentially with waived or subsidized tuition. Additionally, state agencies will be required to interview qualified displaced federal employees for open positions unless there's a documented operational reason not to, and these agencies must report annually on the number of displaced federal employees who apply, interview, and are hired.
