This bill aims to make remote services and supports a permanent option for individuals with developmental disabilities, building on temporary measures implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic. Specifically, by July 1, 2027, the State Department of Developmental Services (DDS), which oversees services for individuals with developmental disabilities through contracted regional centers, will be required to identify which services and supports can be delivered remotely, create the necessary billing codes for these remote services, and provide updated instructions to regional centers on how to authorize, bill for, and document these remote services, also posting this information online. Once regional centers receive this guidance, they must inform eligible consumers about the option to voluntarily choose remote delivery for approved services and supports.
