This bill, the Village Multigenerational Third Places Act, authorizes the Department of Aging to provide grants to nonprofit organizations and area agencies on aging to support social connection for individuals participating in "aging-in-place programs," which are defined as services that help people live independently in their own homes. A key new provision is the establishment of "multigenerational third places," which are community spaces outside of homes or workplaces designed to foster social interaction among people of different ages. These grants can be used to expand existing aging-in-place programs, which may include assistance with personal care, health management, accessing resources, transportation, home modifications, or living in a "senior village" (a member-driven nonprofit supporting aging in place through social connections and neighborly help). Additionally, grants can now fund operational costs for senior villages to provide access to these multigenerational third places, with a minimum of $100,000 appropriated annually for these grants, at least 20% of which must go to senior villages.
