This bill mandates that if Dorchester County joins the Correctional Officers' Retirement System (CORS), certain local detention center officers in Dorchester County who were already employed before the system's adoption will automatically become members of CORS. These officers will receive credit for their service with Dorchester County prior to joining CORS, and upon joining CORS and receiving this service credit, they will no longer be members of the Employees' Pension System, forfeiting any future benefits from that system. This provision specifically applies to individuals who were local detention center officers in Dorchester County before the bill's effective date and remain so through that date, and it clarifies that the transfer of service credit is not subject to the usual rules governing such transfers under Title 37 of the State Personnel and Pensions Article.
