This bill, titled "Sexual predators prohibited from public office," establishes new qualifications for holding certain public offices in Wyoming by prohibiting individuals who are registered sex offenders from being candidates for or appointed to these positions. Specifically, it adds a provision to Wyoming Statute (W.S.) 9-1-104 that makes any "sex offender," defined as someone currently registered on the central registry of offenders, ineligible to serve as a trustee of a school district, community college district board member, county or district attorney, county commissioner, member of a city or town governing body, mayor of a city or town, or county sheriff. Election officials are directed to refuse to certify the names of ineligible candidates, and any individual already in office who becomes disqualified under this law will be considered to have vacated their position. This act is set to take effect on July 1, 2026, and will apply to anyone elected or appointed to public office on or after that date.
