This bill amends the Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act to require owners, licensees, or operators of generative artificial intelligence (AI) systems to conspicuously display a warning on the system's user interface. Generative AI is defined as an automated system that can produce content, such as text, images, or multimedia, that simulates human-produced work when given prompts. The bill specifies that the warning should inform users about the limitations of AI, such as its inability to truly understand meaning, possess genuine knowledge, or have communicative intent, and that its responses are based on pattern recognition and can contain errors or fabricated information. Failure to display this warning each day constitutes a separate violation of the Act, which is considered an unlawful practice.
