This bill, subject to approval by the Cheatham County legislative body, will increase the number of school districts in Cheatham County from six to seven, with each district electing one member to the county board of education, which will also grow from six to seven members. The new districts will be established by the county legislative body to be of roughly equal population, and the first election for the new board member will occur in August 2032, with that member serving a four-year term to ensure staggered terms for the board. Existing board members will continue their service until their current terms expire, and the act will only take effect if approved by a two-thirds vote of the Cheatham County legislative body.
