This bill mandates that the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) and the Office of Homeland Security conduct a comprehensive study on weather radar coverage within the state. This study will assess current coverage, identify areas with insufficient or ineffective radar, evaluate the adequacy of existing systems for detecting severe weather, analyze the infrastructure and technology needed for full statewide coverage, estimate the costs of expansion or enhancement, and identify potential funding and partnership opportunities. Following the study, IEMA and the Office of Homeland Security are required to prepare a written report detailing their findings and any recommendations for legislative or administrative actions to improve or expand weather radar coverage, which must be submitted to the Governor and the General Assembly within one year of the bill's effective date.
