This bill amends the "Clean Drinking Water Access Act" to revise the timeline for schools to develop and implement drinking water management plans and to update certain compliance deadlines. Specifically, schools will now have 24 months, instead of 15 months, after the effective date of the amendatory act to create and make their drinking water management plans available to the public and relevant authorities; these plans must detail the location of water outlets for human consumption, including filtered bottle-filling stations and filtered faucets, and outline schedules for annual water sampling and filter replacement to ensure lead levels are below 5 parts per billion (ppb). The bill also extends the deadline for schools to install all required filtered bottle-filling stations and filtered faucets, and to shut off non-compliant water outlets, from the end of the 2025-2026 school year to the end of the 2028-2029 school year, and clarifies that new drinking fountains can only be installed if they are filtered bottle-filling stations on or after January 24, 2025. The bill also reiterates that school compliance with these requirements is contingent upon sufficient legislative appropriation of funds.
