These activities, which can include legislative visits, organized advocacy days, convention participation, civic leadership events, or meetings with elected officials, must be optional to the curriculum and not organized or supervised by school district staff. The bill also retains a provision allowing for excused absences for up to five days annually for state-recognized search and rescue activities, subject to parental and principal approval and without causing significant adverse effects on the student's education.
