This bill amends the Illinois Public Aid Code to remove the December 31, 2026, expiration dates for two types of additional payments made to safety-net hospitals, which are hospitals that serve a disproportionately high number of Medicaid patients. Specifically, it eliminates the sunset for a health care equity add-on payment, which is determined by a hospital's Medicaid inpatient utilization rate (MIUR) and varies based on that rate, and a low volume add-on payment of $200 for each inpatient day of care for safety-net hospitals that provide fewer than 11,000 Medicaid inpatient days annually. By removing these sunset dates, these payments will continue indefinitely, providing ongoing financial support to these critical healthcare facilities.
