This bill mandates that various health insurance plans and programs in Massachusetts must provide coverage and reimbursement for "hospital at home services" that is equal to what would be provided for in-person hospital care. Hospital at home services allow patients to receive acute hospital-level care in their own homes, typically with remote monitoring and in-person visits from healthcare professionals. This applies to state employees insured through the Group Insurance Commission, individual and group accident and sickness insurance policies, hospital service plans, medical service agreements, health maintenance organization contracts, and preferred provider contracts, as long as the hospital providing these services is part of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Acute Hospital Care at Home Program, a federal initiative designed to expand this care model.
