This bill, titled the Medical Assistant Practice Act, establishes a framework for credentialing medical assistants in Illinois, aiming to improve patient safety and care quality by setting uniform standards. The Department of Financial and Professional Regulation will issue two types of credentials: Registered Medical Assistant (RMA-IL) and Licensed Medical Assistant (LMA-IL). To become an RMA-IL, an applicant must be at least 18 years old, complete at least one academic year of approved education (defined as at least 900 clock hours of instruction and supervised training), and pass a department-approved examination.
