This resolution commends the League of Women Voters of Georgia (LWVGA) for its long history of civic engagement and advocacy. Founded in 1920 out of the women's suffrage movement, the LWVGA has consistently worked to advance voting rights, provide civic education, and ensure election integrity. Over the decades, the organization has advocated for various causes including labor laws, prison reform, public education, civil rights, and equal access to public accommodations. The LWVGA was instrumental in defeating an amendment that would have unfairly weighted elections towards rural areas and has supported landmark legislation like the Voting Rights Act of 1965, the National Voter Registration Act of 1993, and the Help America Vote Act of 2002. Currently, the LWVGA continues to focus on issues such as healthcare access, quality education, environmental protection, and election reform, while also providing voters with resources like the "Georgia Government, Citizen’s Handbook" to promote informed decision-making and advocate for open and responsible government. The resolution directs that a copy be provided to the LWVGA.
