This resolution recognizes the 52nd anniversary of the Consulate-General of Japan in Atlanta, acknowledging its significant role in fostering cultural, political, and economic connections between the Southeastern United States, particularly Georgia, and Japan. The resolution highlights the strong friendship between Georgia and Japan, evidenced by substantial trade valued at $8.33 billion, the presence of 700 Japan-affiliated businesses employing 40,000 people in Georgia, and the Consulate's instrumental role in establishing and growing Japan Fest, the largest Japanese cultural festival in the Southeast. It also points to educational exchanges, including nearly 1,000 Georgia public school students studying Japanese and 590 Georgians participating in Japan's Japanese Exchange and Teaching (JET) program, as well as recent high-level visits from Georgia's Governor to Japan and Japan's Ambassador to Georgia, all of which underscore the deep and enduring relationship between the two entities.
