This bill amends existing Georgia law concerning automatic renewal provisions in service contracts to provide consumers with more control. Specifically, for contracts that automatically renew for a period of one year or more and also increase in cost by 50% or more, sellers must now obtain a consumer's written or electronic acknowledgment that they received the renewal notification and an affirmative written or electronic response indicating the consumer does not wish to terminate the contract. This is in addition to the existing requirement for sellers to notify consumers between 30 and 60 days before the cancellation deadline for automatically renewing contracts. The bill also specifies an effective date of December 31, 2026, and applies to contracts entered into on or after that date.
