Bill Summary

This bill provides that an individual otherwise eligible for unemployment benefits shall not be denied benefits beginning on the 15th day of the individual’s participation in a stoppage of work resulting from a strike or other labor dispute at the factory, establishment, or other premises at which the individual is or was last employed. The bill provides that such an individual is not subject to work search requirements for unemployment benefits. Under current law, such an individual is disqualified for unemployment benefits with specified exceptions.

AI Summary

This bill modifies eligibility for unemployment benefits for individuals involved in strikes or labor disputes. Currently, individuals participating in such work stoppages are generally disqualified from receiving unemployment benefits. However, this bill proposes to allow individuals to receive unemployment benefits starting on the 15th day of their participation in a strike or labor dispute at their place of employment, provided they are otherwise eligible. Furthermore, these individuals would be exempt from the usual requirement to actively search for work while receiving benefits. The bill also removes a provision that currently disqualifies individuals for failing to apply for or accept suitable work, in cases where they are not disqualified due to specific labor dispute provisions.
