This bill amends the Illinois Vehicle Code to allow a multifunction school activity bus (MFSAB), which is a type of bus used for school-related activities but not typically for regular student transportation to and from home or school bus stops, to be used for transporting 15 or fewer people, including the driver, to and from home or school bus stops, provided the driver holds a valid school bus permit. Previously, an MFSAB was generally prohibited from meeting the specific safety requirements for regular school buses unless the driver had a permit, and its use for regular transportation was restricted. This change clarifies that with a valid school bus permit, an MFSAB can be used for this purpose, and in such cases, it must meet the same special requirements as a standard school bus.
