Bill Summary

Current law requires municipalities to establish polling places for each election at least 30 days before the election. Under current law, after an election and more than 30 days before the next election, the location of a polling place in a municipality may not be discontinued without the approval of the municipality’s governing body after a public hearing at which the public has an opportunity to present testimony on the proposed discontinuation. Under this bill, if the location of a polling place is discontinued after an election, notice of that change must be mailed to each residence the polling place serves no later than 30 days before the next election. For further information see the local fiscal estimate, which will be printed as an appendix to this bill.

AI Summary

This bill requires that if a polling place location is changed or discontinued after an election, the municipal clerk or board of election commissioners must mail a notice of this change to every residence served by that polling place no later than 30 days before the next election, ensuring voters are informed about where they need to go to cast their ballot.
