This bill amends education curricula requirements relating to religious liberty by adding a requirement for instruction on the fundamental role of religion in United States history and the primacy of religious liberty to American constitutional government, which must be included in the American constitutional government and citizenship course by the 2027-2028 school year, with specific optional topics related to religion that can be examined, while also clarifying that public schools cannot sponsor or deny prayer or religious devotionals and that school officials and employees cannot use their position to endorse or disparage any religious or non-religious viewpoint, and further mandates that students' academic work will not be penalized or rewarded based on their religious perspective, and that institutions of higher education must ensure students demonstrate an understanding of the fundamental role of religion in US history and religious liberty before receiving a bachelor's degree or teaching credential.
