This resolution respectfully requests that the Rhode Island State House conduct a recycling and waste audit, which is a survey to analyze what materials are being thrown away, recycled, or composted, and in what quantities. The purpose of this audit is to identify wasteful practices and their associated costs, both financial and environmental. Furthermore, the resolution directs the Executive Director of the Joint Committee on Legislative Services and the Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance (DCAMM) to explore installing water filling stations and electric car chargers at the State House to reduce plastic bottle usage and help meet the state's carbon emission reduction goals outlined in the Act on Climate. Both the waste audit and the investigation into the new installations are to be reported back to the House by January 5, 2027, and certified copies of this resolution will be sent to the Governor, the Joint Committee on Legislative Services, and DCAMM.
