This bill amends the Open Meetings Act and the Freedom of Information Act to expand the definition of a "public body" to include certain nongovernmental organizations. Specifically, any private organization that receives either $10,000 or less, or less than 20% of its total funding from the State will now be considered a public body under these laws. This change means that these organizations will be subject to the same transparency requirements as government entities, including holding open meetings and responding to public records requests, which are governed by the Open Meetings Act and the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) respectively.
