This bill amends the Illinois Drainage Code to update how drainage commissioners are compensated. Previously, commissioners received up to $30 per day for days worked on official business, plus reimbursement for expenses. Now, commissioners will have two options for their daily pay: they can either continue to receive up to $30 per day for days actively working, or they can opt for a fixed monthly payment. This monthly payment will be determined by the county board and cannot exceed $30 multiplied by the number of business days in that month. The bill also clarifies that commissioners will still be reimbursed for necessary travel and other expenses incurred while performing their duties, and they must submit itemized, sworn accounts of their claims for services and expenses to the court for auditing and payment. Importantly, these changes to commissioner compensation will only apply to those who begin their terms after the effective date of this new law.
