Bill Summary
AN ACT To amend Code Section 20-2-2068.1, relating to charter school funding, so as to require local boards of education to treat local charter schools no less favorably than other local schools with respect to the expenditure of the proceeds of a special purpose local option sales tax for education; to provide for related matters; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.
AI Summary
This bill requires local boards of education to treat local charter schools the same as other local schools when spending money from a special purpose local option sales tax for education. A special purpose local option sales tax is a tax that voters in a specific area can approve to fund particular projects, in this case, education. This means that if a local school district collects sales tax revenue specifically for educational purposes, charter schools within that district must receive funding from those proceeds in a way that is no less favorable than how traditional public schools in the same district are funded.
