This bill amends existing Georgia law to prohibit the operation of unmanned aircraft systems, commonly known as drones, over places of incarceration, which are defined as any facility used to hold criminals or detainees, including prisons, probation detention centers, and jails. The bill clarifies the definition of an unmanned aircraft system and makes it illegal to fly one over or near these facilities, with exceptions for law enforcement or public safety purposes conducted by peace officers in compliance with federal regulations. Drones operated in violation of this new provision will be considered contraband and subject to seizure and destruction. Furthermore, the bill requires that adequate notice of this prohibition be posted at the entrances of correctional facilities, and any violation will be punished as a misdemeanor.
