This bill aims to ensure that children entering foster care or transition homes receive prompt educational assessments and uninterrupted support services. Specifically, it mandates that the initial evaluation for these children to determine their eligibility for an Individualized Education Program (IEP) or a 504 plan (both are plans designed to provide support for students with disabilities) must be completed within a maximum of 30 days. Furthermore, when a student in foster care or a transition home transfers schools, the previous school must immediately send a copy of their current IEP or 504 plan to the new school. The new school is then required to hold an IEP meeting or a Student Assistance Team (SAT) meeting, which is a team that helps identify and support students with academic or behavioral challenges, within five days of receiving these documents to ensure continuity of services.
