This bill requires that volunteer or part-volunteer fire companies or departments in West Virginia must be members in good standing with the West Virginia State Firemen's Association to receive funds from the Fire Protection Fund, which is a state fund used to support fire services. "Good standing" is defined as having current membership without outstanding dues for more than 90 days and not being under any active suspension or expulsion by the Association. The bill also clarifies that compliance with federal and state laws, including National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, is mandatory. Additionally, it maintains existing provisions for a grace period for submitting fire loss data and an exemption from certain requirements for fire companies whose records or property are destroyed by a disaster.
