AI Summary

This bill allows individuals who are at least 18 years old and legally permitted to possess a firearm to carry a handgun on the campuses of public colleges and universities, as well as private or independent colleges and universities that receive state funding. It clarifies that "campus" includes all facilities and property within the college or university's boundary. The bill also specifies that these institutions cannot enact policies requiring registration of firearms or declaring eligibility to carry, nor can they impose requirements more restrictive than state law regarding additional firearm training, permits, or storage, or create campus-specific limitations that conflict with this new law. Furthermore, it amends existing laws to exclude colleges and universities from the definition of "school" for certain firearm regulations, and it clarifies that concealed handgun permit holders can carry on college campuses unless specific prohibited areas are posted, such as those with security screening or controlled access. The bill also states that no student, faculty, staff, or visitor should face disciplinary action solely for carrying a firearm under these new provisions.
