This resolution, passed by the Senate of Virginia, expresses deep sorrow at the passing of Raymond Rafael Colston of Norfolk, a respected community figure, devoted husband, and father. Mr. Colston was widely known as "Coach Ray" for his extensive work mentoring young boys, aged five to fourteen, through flag football and peewee tackle football teams, starting at the age of sixteen with the organization now called Berkley Timberwolves Youth Athletics. He was dedicated to nurturing not only athletic skills but also character, integrity, and a sense of responsibility in the youth he guided, serving as a positive role model and promoting servant leadership. Beyond his coaching, Mr. Colston was a certified youth life coach, a motivational speaker, a published author, and held leadership positions with organizations like the YMCA of Hampton Roads and the Tallwood High School Men of Excellence Mentoring Group, and he chaired the 2023 African American Male Summit. The Senate acknowledges his significant contributions to the Norfolk community and the lasting impact of his legacy on the young men he inspired, and the Clerk of the Senate is directed to provide a copy of this resolution to his family as a token of respect.
