L. 1987, p. 4423), so as to provide an additional judge; to provide for the election of the initial additional judge; to provide for terms of office of said additional judge and successors to such judge; to provide for the powers and privileges of said additional judge; to provide for the compensation and expenses of said additional judge; to provide for related matters; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.
AI Summary
This bill, by adding a new judge to the State Court of Muscogee County, aims to increase the court's capacity. Currently, the State Court of Muscogee County has two judges, but this legislation, effective January 1, 2027, will increase that number to three. The two existing judges will continue to serve their current terms, while the new, third judge will be elected in the 2026 nonpartisan general election for a four-year term. This additional judge will possess the same powers, duties, and privileges as the current judges and will receive the same compensation and expense allowances. The bill also repeals any conflicting laws.
