This bill requires government entities in Wyoming, which include the state, its agencies, municipalities, counties, school districts, public colleges and universities, political subdivisions, and special districts, to accept physical U.S. coins and Federal Reserve notes (cash) for in-person transactions, such as fees, fines, taxes, charges, and payments for admission to government-sponsored events, in addition to any other payment methods they may choose to accept. Importantly, these government entities are prohibited from charging any extra fees simply because someone pays with cash, although they can still collect fees that are otherwise legally authorized regardless of how they are paid. The bill also clarifies that it does not affect any existing contracts or obligations related to payment and will become effective on July 1, 2026.
