This bill mandates that by January 1, 2027, all public elementary and secondary schools in Georgia must display a durable poster or framed copy of the Bill of Rights in three specific locations: the main entrance of the school building, the main entrance of the school library or media center, and the main entrance of the cafeteria, ensuring these displays are easily readable by students and adults. The Bill of Rights displays must be at least 18 inches wide and 24 inches high, featuring a prominent "The Bill of Rights" heading followed by the text of the First through Tenth Amendments to the U.S. Constitution, presented in a legible font. Importantly, schools are not required to spend public funds for these displays; they are encouraged to accept donated posters or framed copies that meet the specified requirements, as well as any donated funds for their purchase. The State Board of Education will establish rules to implement these requirements, and the Department of Education will provide information on its website about free resources that comply with the bill. This legislation amends existing law that already encouraged the display of historically significant documents, including the Bill of Rights, to now make its display mandatory in specific locations and formats.
