This bill modifies how members of the Walker County Board of Education are elected, changing from a system where all voters in the county could vote for any board member to one where each of the five board members will be elected only by the voters living within their specific education district. This means that if you live in Education District 1, you will only vote for the candidate running to represent District 1. The bill also clarifies how vacancies on the board are filled: if a vacancy happens in the first two years of a term, the remaining board members appoint someone to serve until the next election, when voters of that district will elect someone for the remainder of the term; if a vacancy occurs in the last two years of a term, the remaining board members appoint someone to serve out the rest of that term. The new board will take over all responsibilities of the previous board, except as specifically changed by this Act.
