This bill prohibits the sale, offer for sale, distribution, and manufacture of "lab-grown meat" within the state of Maryland for human consumption, defining lab-grown meat as any meat or meat product derived from animal cells cultured outside of the animal. Violators of this prohibition will face a civil penalty of up to $5,000, which can be collected through a civil lawsuit in the District Court, and the Secretary of Health may also seize or condemn any lab-grown meat sold or produced in violation of this law. This legislation is set to take effect on October 1, 2026.
