This bill amends existing law to allow incarcerated individuals to earn additional sentence reduction credits for obtaining an associate's degree, in addition to the bachelor's degree already recognized. Specifically, it modifies R.S. 15:828(E) to state that offenders who earn either a bachelor's or an associate's degree from an accredited and department-approved educational institution while in prison will be eligible for an extra ninety days of credit towards reducing their projected parole supervision date, a concept often referred to as "good time" credit.
