Bill Summary

AN ACT To amend and reenact R.S. 15:828(E), relative to diminution of sentence; to provide relative to diminution of sentence for the earning of an associate's degree; and to provide for related matters.

AI Summary

This bill amends existing Louisiana law, specifically R.S. 15:828(E), to allow incarcerated individuals to earn additional sentence reduction credits for obtaining an associate's degree, in addition to the bachelor's degree already recognized. Previously, only a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited and department-approved institution could earn an extra ninety days of credit towards the reduction of their projected good time parole supervision date, and this bill expands that eligibility to include associate's degrees earned while incarcerated.
