This bill amends an existing law concerning the compensation of the Sheriff of Limestone County. Currently, the Sheriff's salary is set at 85 percent of the highest-paid Thirty-ninth Judicial Circuit Court Judge's salary. However, this bill proposes to change that, establishing a new base annual salary of $149,000 for the Sheriff, effective January 18, 2027, which will replace the previous salary calculation. The Sheriff will still be eligible for cost-of-living and other uniform increases provided to all county employees by the county commission, and the bill reiterates that the Sheriff cannot personally profit from the food account used for prisoner meals. This act is set to become effective on October 1, 2026.
