This bill mandates that private health insurance plans, referred to as "health benefit plans" which cover a broad range of medical expenses, and the Alabama Medicaid program must pay for or reimburse individuals for influenza vaccines and the associated "administration costs" (the expenses of giving the shot, like provider fees and supplies). This coverage cannot be denied based on where the vaccine is given, such as a doctor's office, pharmacy, or clinic, and it applies only to flu shots, not other vaccines. The bill also clarifies that it does not change existing school immunization rules or limit an individual's or parent's right to decide whether to get a flu shot, and it will take effect on August 1, 2026.
