This bill establishes a task force to study and recommend ways to improve affordability for children, families, and young professionals within the state. The task force will examine existing programs like cash assistance, educational and job training, and child care subsidies, as well as systemic issues such as housing, transportation, healthcare access, and racial disparities that hinder affordability. It will also consider the impact of inflation and regional cost differences, develop methods to track economic progress, identify gaps in essential services in less affordable areas, and propose both short-term improvements and long-term structural reforms. The task force will also explore funding sources and ways state agencies can collaborate for greater efficiency. The task force will be composed of various state commissioners or their designees, legislative committee leaders, and up to ten appointed members with relevant expertise or organizational representation. The task force is required to submit a preliminary report by June 1, 2027, hold a public forum to discuss it by July 1, 2027, and submit a final report by June 1, 2028, after which it will terminate.
