This resolution, passed by the Senate of Virginia, formally acknowledges and expresses sorrow over the passing of William Robinson Akers, Jr., who died on August 22, 2024. Mr. Akers was a highly respected figure in emergency medical services (EMS), known for his dedication to training and education, which advanced the field of emergency medicine. He also served as a chemistry teacher at St. Paul High School and was a dedicated member, and former captain, of the Lebanon Lifesaving Crew. His significant contributions included being an original paramedic with the Med-Flight II helicopter EMS program, serving as a training coordinator for the Southwest Virginia EMS Council, and expanding the Southwest Virginia Paramedic Program. Mr. Akers received numerous accolades, including the Governor's EMS Award for Excellence in Emergency Medical Services in 2023, and was an active member of the Lebanon Community Fellowship Church. The Senate of Virginia will provide a copy of this resolution to his family as a token of their respect for his memory.
