This bill amends existing Alabama law regarding the licensing of general contractors by expanding certain exemptions. Specifically, it adds "routine landscape maintenance work" to the list of exempted activities, which now includes pressure washing services and other routine ground maintenance. It also introduces a new exemption for routine or regular maintenance, repair, or removal of existing security and access control systems, lighting and filter systems, plumbing, air conditioning, and electrical systems, as well as existing paint on painted surfaces. Furthermore, it exempts routine cleaning, waste disposal, and janitorial services, including floor cleaning, stripping, and waxing. The bill also clarifies that the construction or repair of residential swimming pools is now exempt from general contractor licensing requirements. These changes are intended to broaden the scope of work that does not require a general contractor's license, with the effective date set for October 1, 2026.
