This bill, titled the EV Charging Stations Transparency Act, requires operators of direct current (DC) fast charging stations, which are devices used to charge electric vehicles at high speeds, to display a clear and conspicuous label on the station. This label, measuring three inches by three inches, must identify the primary energy resource category (such as coal, natural gas, wind, solar, etc.) that supplied electricity to the station during the previous calendar year. If the single largest energy resource category accounts for less than 50% of the electricity, the label must list the two largest categories. Public utilities are responsible for calculating and disclosing this information to the charging station operators, based on their energy resource mix within the service territory. Operators must update these labels annually by March 31st. Violating these requirements is a misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of up to $750, and the act will take effect on July 1, 2026.
